Apple has introduced AirPods 5, an open-ear wireless earbud line that brings active noise cancellation, redesigned acoustics and improved durability to a more accessible price point.

What the wireless charging case adds

The wireless-case version adds a force sensor and swipe controls on the stem for volume adjustment. Its case can charge with an Apple Watch charger, Qi-certified charger or USB-C.

  • Up to 22 hours total with the case and ANC enabled

Recycled materials

Apple says both AirPods 5 models use 40 percent recycled material overall. The wireless charging case includes 70 percent recycled plastic, the battery uses 100 percent recycled cobalt and the paper packaging uses 100 percent wood fiber.

Which version should you choose?

The standard model is the lower-cost route to ANC. The wireless-case version is aimed at users who want longer battery life, stem swipe volume controls and charging compatibility with chargers they already own.
