If your AirPods or charging case won’t charge, don’t panic. This guide covers basic troubleshooting steps you can try at home before contacting Apple Support or visiting a service center.

1. Check the Charging Case Battery

If your charging case is below 10% battery, it may not have enough power to charge the AirPods.

  • Place the AirPods in the case and close the lid
  • Open the lid near your iPhone to check battery status
  • Charge the case for at least 15 minutes if it’s low

2. Clean the AirPods and Charging Case

Dirt or dust may prevent proper contact between the AirPods and the case.

  • Use a microfiber cloth to gently wipe the stems and metal contacts
  • Use a soft brush or cotton swab to clean inside the charging ports
  • Isopropyl alcohol may help remove sticky grime—use with care

3. Reposition the AirPods

Improper placement in the case can prevent charging.

  • Remove and reinsert the AirPods into the case
  • Ensure each AirPod clicks into place securely
  • Close the lid and check for the charging indicator

4. Reset Your AirPods

Resetting your AirPods can fix software glitches affecting charging.

  1. Place AirPods in the case and close the lid
  2. Wait 30 seconds, then open the lid
  3. Hold the button on the back until the LED flashes white
  4. Reconnect AirPods to your device

5. Check the Charging Cable and Adapter

A faulty cable or adapter may be the issue.

  • Try a different Lightning cable or USB-C cable you know works
  • Inspect the case’s charging port for dirt or damage

6. Wireless Charging Tips (if supported)

If you’re using a wireless charging case:

  • Place the case on the charger with the status light facing up
  • The status light should turn on briefly
  • If it doesn’t, reposition the case or try wired charging

7. Contact Apple or a Trusted Service Provider

If none of these fixes work, it might be time to consult with a technician or authorized Apple service center.
