Missing email can result from connectivity, account verification, the message-fetch schedule, or a provider-side issue. Sign in on your email provider’s website first to see whether the message reached the account before changing settings on the iPhone.

Work through these checks in order

  1. Confirm that the iPhone is online, then visit your email provider’s website to see whether new messages are present in the mailbox.
  2. If Mail asks for a password, verify the account name and password by signing in on the provider’s website. If an error remains, contact the provider or administrator instead of repeatedly guessing.
  3. Review the account’s Fetch New Data setting. Check whether it is automatic, scheduled, or manual, and choose a fetch frequency that suits the account.
  4. Check Mail notifications if messages arrive but alerts do not appear. Also ask the provider about an outage or security requirements such as an app-specific password.
  5. Before removing and adding the account again, sign in on the provider’s website to confirm that messages are stored on the server or saved elsewhere. Then re-add the account using the provider’s setup details.

When to get more help

If you cannot sign in on the provider’s website, see a repeated password error, or messages never reach the account, contact the email provider or system administrator. Removing an account can remove downloaded messages from the device, so verify a separate copy first.
