When Safari cannot open a page, test another website and check whether other apps or devices can get online. Finding out whether the issue affects one site, one network, or Safari generally helps avoid unnecessary data removal.
Work through these checks in order
- Open another trusted website, then test Safari over cellular data or a different Wi-Fi network. If the other network works, check the router or internet provider.
- If a VPN or security-filtering app is active, review its settings and temporarily turn it off for a test, then reload the page.
- Restart the iPhone and open Safari again. If the problem remains, check for an available iOS update.
- If only one website is affected, clear Safari history and website data if appropriate, knowing that this can remove some browsing data from the device.
- If certain pages still behave unexpectedly, check JavaScript in Safari settings and turn it on if it is off. For a problem limited to one site, contact that site’s administrator.
When to get more help
If Safari fails on every network after a restart and update, or a page displays a security warning, do not bypass the warning or enter credentials on an untrusted page. Contact Apple Support or the network administrator for further help.
